NRI Mandeep Singh Kohli, 29, a millionaire
company director has been jailed for 22 months and banned from
driving for three years because he lied to police to evade 36
speeding tickets.
He gave police officers the names
of people living abroad when cars registered to his family firm,
including a Porsche and a Ferrari, were caught by speed cameras.
Kohli pleaded guilty to 12 charges
of perverting the course of justice and asked for 24 similar offences
to be taken into consideration, according to a report in the Birmingham
Post.
He also admitted two counts of obtaining
a money transfer by deception, relating to two insurance claims
following accidents involving his firm's delivery drivers.
Kohli, a former investment banking
student, was also helping to run part of the Shimla Pinks Indian
restaurant chain when the offences were committed between October
2002 and January 2005, the court heard, and has since resigned
as a director of Coventry-based import-export company Stonegalleon.
