NRI Professor at University
of Bahrain honoured with Hind Rattan Award

In a glittering ceremoney, Professor, Prem Lal Joshi, Professor
of Accounting, at the University of Bahrain, has been honored with
the HIND RATTAN AWARD ( Jewel of India) on the eve of Indian Republic
day by the NRI Welfare Society ( a registered body with Government
of India) on Jan 25, 2009 in New Delhi. The award recognizes his
outstanding academic and intellectual contributions and achievements.
In its 28th year now, the "Hind Rattan" is presented each
year to leading expatriates Indians. The five-day awards program
began in the Indian capital, New Delhi on January 24 with a dinner
reception and cultural extravaganza.

The awards were given by Mr. K.C. Pant, former Defence Minister,
Dr. Bhisham Singh, former Minister and Governor, Mr/ G.V.G. Former
Election Commissioner, Mr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi ( Congress Party
Spokesman), the noted personality and the former Attorney General
of India. A number of of government dignitaries, diplomats and industrialists
were present at the award gala on January 25th at New Delhi's Lalit
Intercontinental Hotel.
"We are proud of NRIs for making substantial contributions
in strengthening Indian relationships abroad ," said Deepak
Singh, convener of the NRI Welfare Society of India.
The 'Hind Rattan' award adds to a growing accolades for Professor
Joshi. "It is a great honor to be part of this prestigious
group, said Dr Joshi. A total of four NRIs from Bahrain received
this award for their contributions and achievements in various fields.
Whereas 18 NRIs from the US received this award.
Dr Joshi holds Master of Commerce from Delhi University and Ph.D
from Garhwal University. Dr. Joshi joined the University of Bahrain
in 1993 and has been continuously serving the international communities
by demonstratiing high degree of commitment and sincerity. His prior
assignments were with Bilkent University, Turkey, University of
Nairobi, Kenya, National Institute for Training in Industrial Engineering
(NITIE), Mumbai, India and Garhwal University, India.
He has several achievements to his credit. He is listed in Marquis
Who's Who in the World and International Who's Who USA. International
Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England, has included his name
its publication among the Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st
Century.
He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of
Accounting Auditing and Performance Evaluation (IJAAPE) and Managing
Editor of Afro Asian Journal of Finance and Accounting, both the
journals are published from U.K. He is also an Academic Fellow of
Association of International Accountants, UK. He has been continuously
engaged in promoting accounting education and research at the global
level.
Dr Joshi has authored six books in Accounting. Earlier while working
in India, he contributed substantially in training and consultancy
to various government and corporate sector companies in the implementation
of Zero-Based Budgeting. His books are also text books in schools
in Bahrain.
Dr. Joshi has publisehd over 60 research papers in leading refereed
international journals and over 55 articles in non-refereed journals
and magazines. He is on the editorial board of several international
journals. He is also an external reviewer for the faculty promotion
of several universities in Canada, UK, Australia, Middle East, Africa
and India.. He has participated and presented papers in over 30
international accounting conferences and also chaired several technical
sessions. He regularly participates in European Accounting Association
congress.
Dr. Joshi has also conducted several international surveys on
Changing Role of NRIs, Value-based education and Value-based journalism
etc. as a part of his international community services in order
to create awareness among the youth and other professionals.
Dr. Joshi 's two sons are accounting and finance professionals and
daughter is an engineer. His wife Lila Joshi is a housewife.
