UPINDERJIT KAUR CONDOLES
THE DEATH OF PROF. PRITAM SINGH
Chandigarh, October 26, 2008
The Education and Languages Minister Punjab Dr. Upinderjit Kaur
today expressed deep shock at the sad demise of famous Punjabi
writer and academician Prof. Pritam Singh who expired after prolonged
illnesses at Patiala.
In a condolence message Dr. Upinderjit Kaur said that in the
death of Prof. Pritam Singh, Punjab as well as literature world
has lost a writer whose writings gave it a new identity and a
social purpose.
The Education Minister expressed heartfelt sympathy with the
bereaved family and prayed to God to give peace to the departed
soul and strength to bear this irreparable loss.

Dr Pritam Singh, noted Sikh scholar and recipient of Shiromani Sahitya
Award passed away on Saturday after prolonged illness.
- On Dec. 2003, a friend of Gary Singh, N S Rattan, former
principal secretary, Higher Education, Punjab, and Vice-Chancellor
of Punjabi University compared Prof Pritam Singh to Baba Borh.
‘‘Prof Singh has done a yeoman’s service to
Punjabi Sikh History and Sikh culture by collecting and preserving
the old manuscripts in Punjabi,’’ said Rattan.
- Dr. Marshal R Goodman, provost and vice-president
of San Jose State University, San Jose (California) honoured
Punjabi writer Prof Pritam Singh of Patiala at Panjab University
- PU Registrar Paramjit Singh said that Prof
Pritam Singh represented a unique combination of writing and
verbal communication
