NRI, Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains


BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Bains was born in India at Dagana Kalan, his maternal village near Hoshiarpur to mother Sardarni Pritam Kaur and father S. Naginder Singh Bains in 1936. He grew up in his paternal village Manak Dheri in district Hohiarpur. His mother was a noble housewife and father was a simple peasant. Even when Raghbir Singh was in his teens, he used to spend after-school hours in grazing buffalos to support livelihood of his parental family and doing social service in the community.

  • He did his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts from Punjab University, India during his service with Northern Railway.
  • While serving as Taxation Inspector with the Government of Punjab, Dr Bains obtained the degree of LL.B from Guru Nanak Dev University Punjab in the year1982.
  • He earned drug-counseling certification from different institutions in Canada and USA.
  • Dr Bains earned the degree of Ph.D. from USA in 2002 at the age of 67 on world religions and world cultures.

Dr. Bains has vast experience of working on different government and non-government advisory committees in India and Canada. He has a rich experience of working as Drug addiction counselor, Manager of drug addiction counseling department and Chairman of the Gains Act Tribunal in British Columbia, Canada.

Raghbir Singh Bains is author of the Encyclopaedia of Sikhism on multimedia technology, which is first of its kind in the world. He is producer-director of Multimedia Sikh Museum set up in India (Khadur Sahib) by using the Robotic and LCD (liquid crystal display) touch screen technology. Dr Bains has produced couple of CDs on drug addiction, HIV-AIDS, Sikh history-philosophy and world peace. He is a well known writer who has authored many classic books and created various CDs dealing with socio-economic evils in the world. Although he is in seventies, he is still busy in setting up a Cyber School that would give free coaching to students in the fields of drug addiction, English, Mathematics and Science subjects worldwide.

A living legend, Dr Bains touched the heights of life long achievements by dint of his honest labour, commitment and hard work in life. He has earned good name-fame and accomplished more than most men of his time. He has been decorated with prestigious awards for working with vulnerable youth on drugs, rapes, prostitution, AIDS, environment and world peace. Dr Bains has been honored with dozens of local, national and international awards like: Order of British Columbia, Government of B.C. Canada, Sahitya Shiromani Award (Vashesh), Government of Punjab, India, Order of Khalsa, Government of Punjab, India, Panth Ratan Award, India, International Dasmesh Award, USA, Good Citizen of Surrey Title, Local Government of Surrey, Canada, Queen II’s Golden Jubilee Medal, Government of Canada, Information Technology Volunteer Award, India, Wisdom of Age Mentorship Award, Canada, Order of Nishan-e-Sikhi, India, Sikh Scholar of Computer Age (Sri Akal Takht Sahib and SGPC) India, Shan-e-Punjab International Award, India, Community Mentor Award, Surrey, B.C. Dr. Bains has organized dozens of seminars and conferences worldwide on the subjects of drugs and youth, rapes and prostitution, HIV and AIDS awareness, environmental issues and world peace. He is always busy in creating a drug free haven for global communities so that people over this earth live a peaceful and harmonious life. He has toured dozens of countries in the world to create awareness about dangers of poverty, drugging, prostitution and AIDS. His research work on AIDS in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda is praiseworthy. His interest in promoting humanitarianism, mutual understanding, universal brother-hood, human welfare, life value system, peace and prosperity in the world is commendable. Being a good role model, Dr Bains enjoys complete trust and popularity in the global Sikh community. He is widely respected for his broad knowledge and selfless service on socio-economic issues and his ability to deliver the preventive measures accordingly.

Dr Bains offers his expertise on drugs and social evils to pepole of all ages and genders in his city, region, province, country and outside its borders addressing seminars, inter-active-workshops, publishing articles and creating awareness through audio-visual aids-media so that future generations become productive members of the global socio-economic fabric.


 

 
 


Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains - Surrey, BC. Canada


Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains immigrated to Canada in 1990, and has since worked tirelessly as a volunteer, community activist and educator for many organizations to promote cultural understanding and mutual respect between the Indo-Canadian and other communities in B.C.

Dr. Bains has presented at seminars and conferences worldwide on the subjects of AIDS awareness, drugs and youth, environmental issues, multiculturalism and world peace. He is the author of the Encyclopedia of Sikhism, an educational reference that covers Sikh religion, history, culture and heritage. Dr. Bains produced and programmed the Multimedia Sikh Museum in India, the first of its kind in the world, using new technology to make it easily accessible and interactive for all.

Dr. Bains has produced many publications on drug and alcohol addiction, its prevention, and treatment. He has also written on many other wide-ranging topics, from HIV/AIDs awareness, to poverty, and world peace. He is an active volunteer and role model in the Indo-Canadian community, acting as an interpreter and assisting new immigrants to become accustomed to Canadian living.

Dr. Bains has won more than 60 local, national and international awards. He was declared Scholar of the 20th Century by the Government of Punjab, and received the Order of Khalsa, the Bhai Gurdas International Award, the Wisdom of Age Mentorship Award, the Good Citizen of the Year Award from the City of Surrey, and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for outstanding community service.He lives in Surrey, B.C.
