Environmentalist Baba Sewa Singh Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib, Bhai (Dr) Mohinder Singh Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha UK, Singh Sahib Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti former Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Singh Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar and Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa bestowed ‘Lifetime Community Service Award’ upon Dr Bains and ‘International Philanthropy Award’ upon S. Thakral. Dr Mohinderjit Singh, Karnail Singh Head Mason and SPS Dosanjh Landscaper were also honoured with ‘Award of Excellence’. These awards were bestowed for rendering precious services to the community in constructing first of its kind tower named ‘Nishan-E- Sikhi’ built to help the needy and the deserving students to excel in life and to build a stronger and peaceful world.

Dr Bains is an eminent encyclopaedist, record holder museologist, committed community activist and a devoted drug therapist. He is a long time mover around the world to educate youth and to create awareness about prevention of the menace of social evils. He has already been decorated with hundreds of local, national, and international awards, titles and accolades. Similarly, S. Kartar Singh Thakral is an internationally recognized business icon and a famous philanthropist who helped dozens of organizations to serve the global communities in different fields of education.

The construction of ‘Nishan-E-Sikhi’ building was spearheaded by Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains under the blissful guidance of Padam Shri Baba Sewa Singh who also started planting trees in 1999 on both sides of 250 KM roads in Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi to preserve pollution free environment to save humanity from health hazards. To enhance socio-religious education amongst youth, the foundation stone of Nishan-E-Sikhi was laid on April 18, 2004 while commemorating the 5th centennial celebrations of ‘Parkash Gurpurv’ of Guru Angad Dev Ji at Khadur Sahib. The eight storey building is 130 ft high and housed in a four acre parcel of land at Khadur Sahib in Punjab. The town of Khadur Sahib has been sanctified by the visit of eight Sikh Gurus.

Let’s not forget to recognize the community activists, mentors and role models who are fully committed to serve the needy, incapacitated, sick and the disadvantaged people. Although such activists never ask for any rewards or awards but community minded people encourage such unsung heroes by saying ‘thank you’ to them for their energy and time spent for the wellbeing of entire human race. Such community activists are our strength to institute peace and to establish integrity and mutual harmony in the world.
