YAAD Foundation Launched To Fight Drugs
Wake up Youth, We Need You: Dr Bains

Drugs are worst enemy of humanity. Any one of any age, color, caste or creed can fall easy prey to the evils of drugs, domestic violence, rapes, prostitution, foeticide and HIV-AIDS.
To fight the deadly monster, young activists of Punjab established an organization named ‘Youth Against Alcohol-Drugs Foundation’ under patronage of renowned drug therapist Dr Raghbir Singh Bains of Canada. The mission of the Foundation is to create awareness and educate the youth to stay away from the dangers of alcohol and drugs. The campaign is featuring several communications, audiovisual presentations and the distribution of leaflets and periodicals dealing with the phenomenon and ways to prevent the drug evils.
World known environmentalist Baba Sewa Singh Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib launched the campaign at Guru Nanak District Library auditorium and motivated the parents to inculcate life values in their wards so that they become productive citizens to serve the global society.
Addressing the elite gathering of community activists hailing from Punjab and abroad, Dr Raghbir Singh Bains said, “Abusive drugs are worst enemy of the society. Countless drug addicts suffer from physical, mental, economic and social problems in the world. Drugs enhance the number of deaths, murders, suicides, rapes, prostitution, domestic violence and AIDS. Female killing in fetus is heinous crime that should be stopped and plugged by starting joint campaigns by the socio-religious and political mentors”.
Dr Bains further said that many people were just burying their heads in sand and had long been silent about the social evils. Such silence and complacency was dangerous since the evils do not respect any religion, caste, color, creed, culture or country. He urged the parents, socio-educational institutions, preachers, leaders and media to educate youth by holding seminars and interactive workshops against social evils. Dr Bains invited the youth to become part of the solution to lead a truthful life. He further inspired the foundation members to personally communicate with the misled youth to mend their abusive behavior so that they stay away from drug syringes and adultery. While addressing the youth Dr Bains asked, “ Wake up Youth, We Need You”.
The training sessions were organized by Dr Bains for organizers involved in the campaign who, in turn, will implement the program. The campaign will provide answers to drug abuse by contacting the needy and vulnerable. Concern over the burgeoning drug-abuse in Punjab among youth was shown by all the attendees.
An anti drug education brochure was released by Dr Bains for free distribution amongst general public. Jaswinder Singh president of the YAAD Foundation and Harvinder Singh executive member talked about their mission to clean the communities of the social evils to build up a peaceful and prosperous society. Dr Nirmal Singh President Punjabi Sath Lambra thanked the special congregation and promised to help the YAAD Foundation activists to achieve their mission for a better future. An exhibition by the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), in association with the National AIDS Control Society (NACO), was also held.
