Professor (Dr.) Amarjit Singh was awarded the most prestigious Construction Management Award.  The award citation read that it was "for innovation and research aimed at improving construction around the globe." 

Professor (Dr.) Amarjit Singh was awarded the most prestigious Construction Management Award.by American Society of Civil Engineers.

Dr. Singh won his university’s highest teaching honor – the Board of Regents Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009.  He is also the recipient of nine best paper awards, including the General Sir Arthur Cotton Prize and Surendra Nath Mukherjee Memorial Prize awarded by the Institution of Engineers (India).  He earned a B.Tech degree in 1976 from the elite Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries.

It was founded in 1852 to represent members of the civil engineering profession worldwide. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, it is the oldest national engineering society in the United States. Its constitution was based on the older Boston Society of Civil Engineers from 1848

Only one award is given in any year at an annual function of the American Society of Civil Engineers.  Past recipients have included pioneers of construction management such as Robert Peurifoy, whose books in the area revolutionized the field of construction management, and John Fondahl, who discovered the Critical Path Method.

This award is granted on the basis of outstanding contributions to the field of construction management as a practitioner, educator, or researcher either in the form of written presentations, scholarly work, or notable performance.  This award is considered most important because it is awarded from a large field of greatly accomplished professionals and researchers.

Dr. Singh’s many achievements in different countries, his vast publications on innovative and pioneering topics, and his scholarship, as well as cutting edge research on mitigating wave energies in harbors and monitoring distress in airport pavements enabled him to receive this award.

He is the first person of Indian origin to ever receive this award since this award was launched in 1974.

In addition to his present position as Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Hawaii, Dr. Singh is Honorary President of the International Structural Engineering and Construction Society, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution in Engineering and Construction. 

 He earlier served as Honorary Chairperson of the Hawaii Council of Engineering Societies, and Director of the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly, the faculty union.  

He was elected to the highest senatorial position at the 12-campus University of Hawaii position, and thus appointed as co-chair of the All Campus Council of Faculty Senate Chairs at the University of Hawaii System.
