Though the runaway couple -- Prabhjot and Bhupinder -- tied the knot at Gurdwara Jiwan Sudhar Sabha in Sector 32 on Sunday, their run from home has not ended.

The fear of Ludhiana police and the NRI girl's brother-in-law stalks their minds.

Leaving for Toronto on October 30, the newly-wed Prabhjot Kaur does not wish to go back to her village in Ludhiana district.

She will leave for Canada from here.

While talking to TNN, Prabhjot Kaur, who works in a garment shop in Toronto, asserted that their marriage had been solemnised with the blessings of their parents. When asked why they did not attend the wedding, she alleged that her brother-in-law Rajwinder Singh, with the help of a senior Ludhiana police official and a former MLA, had been threatening her parents.

Prabhjot Kaur further alleged that her brother-inlaw, who was not on good terms with her sister, wanted her to marry his unemployed brother to help him migrate to Canada. When she refused, Rajwinder Singh got her and her husband Bhupinder's family members implicated in false cases, she alleged.

She and her husband were forced to run from their homes, Prabhjot said.

Her husband Bhupinder Singh, a travel agent from Ludhiana, alleged that despite the Punjab State Human Rights Commission's directive to provide police protection to them, Ludhiana police had not acted till date.

Amar Singh Chahal, president of Lawyers for Human Rights International (LHRI) which came to the rescue of the couple, demanded that a high-level inquiry should be ordered
