Hey NRIs, Section 498 (A) of the Indian Penal Code makes it
mandatory for police to book husband and his parents and other
relatives/friends whoever being named on the complaint by wife
or her close relatives and jail them.
Even you are living with your wife in any foreign country and
for any reason your wife is mad with you ( due to mother-in-law
involvement or you personal house hold problem), you are
in great trouble.
She can just go back to India and lodge a complaint against you,
your parents, sister, brother-in-law..etc in police station that
you are looking a dowry and tortured her. Section 498 (A) of
the Indian Penal Code will apply against you

Wife gets NRI husband
arrested at Hyderabad for dowry :

Harrassed by her NRI husband in New Zealand, a Hyderabadi girl
returned home. She told her parents about the treatment she got
from her husband who was torturing her for more dowry.
In a well-laid trap this girl and her parents called the man
to India with a pretext that his demands will be fulfilled. As
he was arriving a complained was lodged at the local police station
the police arrested the NRI at the airport.
NRI Kiran Kumar, who was returning to home town Hyderabad after
long time thought he could spend good time as his demands for
more dowry are being fulfilled by in-laws. He would not have imagined
that he will be arrested right at the airport by the local police
who had a complaint against him by Kiran's wife Vasavi.
Vasavi and her parents lodged complaint with the local police
that Kiran harassed her in New Zealand and tortured her for more
dowry.
Kiran and Vasavi got married in May 2004. Vasavi's parents spent
Rs five lakhs for marriage and even gave a flat as gift during
the marriage. Right from the beginning the relations soured.
Initially, he did not take Vasavi along with him to New Zealand
after lot of pressure he took her. The harassment and torture
started as soon as Vasavi landed there. Unable to bear Vasavi
somehow returned to her parents in Hyderabad.
Vasavi says Kiran already had a girl friend in New Zealand and
their relationship continued even after the marriage.
``This affair is going on since three years. Even when i went
there he used to get calls from her. He used to go to her in nights
and come back in the morning. He used to beat me. Even she called
me up and abused me calling me ``bloody bitch,'' ``a...hole''
