I read some of the articles where the NRI husbands
have been abused by their wifes by wrongful dowry/cruelty
allegations. I have been a victim to similar allegation.
I am an H1B Software professional who had an arrange
marriage (with a doctor) in 2003 Jan without any dating
time. And in a couple of weeks we landed here together
in US. Later on I discovered that my wife was Shizophrenic
who was being treated for accute depressions since
the last 10 years. She/my inlaws never disclosed these
things and they convinced my wife not to seek any
medical advise in US because that could jeoparadize
her career later on. As the time went bye, the things
started to get worse. Since she wont agree to any
treatments in US, so towards Nov 03, I made a trip
to India where the doctors diagnosed her with Paranoid
Schizophrenia and suggested that she stays back in
India amongst her family for some time because the
patient needs support from someone who knows everything
about her interests/medi! cal history.
Well I came back alone to US after a couple of weeks
and started hoping and praying for the best. But as
the time went bye, I did not hear the truth about
her diagnosis from her family sinc ethey always tried
showing the rosy pictures. Anyways such lies/deception
at every point convinced me that there was no future
in this marriage so I talked with my in laws and informed
them about this. They started threatening me and my
family that they will be filing law suits against
us and harrass us in all possible ways.
Well finally I filed a law suit for Anullment/divorce
in CA in Dec 04. After I did this they started filing
all dowry & cruelty allegations against me and
my family in India.
My case in CA will be decided next month but my in
laws have been threatening me that they will write
to the US embassy/ US High commissions etc and get
my visa revoked.
I have been a law abiding person all my life and
have never done anything morally/ethically wrong.
But I am not aware of any resources or ways to safe
guard myself under these circumstances. Hence I request
you to please help me by providing any/all resources
that might be able to guide me. ...............Los
