Eight non-resident Indians have been booked on the
charges of demanding 11 acres of land from the parents
of a married woman and harassing her. These NIRs are
settled in England and Holland.
The complainant, Sukhdeep Kaur of Badhanikalan, had
stated that she got married to Sukhrajpal Singh, a
resident of England, on March 29 last year and her
parents had spent about Rs 10 lakh on their marriage,
besides giving a lot of jewellery to her in-laws.
She said her husband had promised to call her to
England soon, but just when the process of her immigration
had started, her in-laws put forth a demand that her
parents would have to give 11 acres of land for her
immigration. She alleged when her family expressed
their inability in fulfilling their demand, they started
dilly-dallying her immigration.
Taking serious notice of her complaint, the police
has booked her husband and seven others under Sections
406, 498A and 120-B of the IPC.
