The wife of a NRI computer engineer committed suicide by hanging herself at her parent's place in Ramanthapur on Monday. The reason - she was unable to bear the harassment of her in-laws.

The Uppal police said on Tuesday that T Rajshree, 25, was married to M Srinivasulu, a native of Bhavani Nagar in Hanamkonda, Warangal on November 20, 2003. Nearly 30 tolas of gold and a flat worth Rs 8 lakh had been given as dowry to Srinivasulu.

On Monday, Rajshree's father T Kanta Rao and mother Lakshmi found their daughter hanging in the bedroom of their house in Srinivasapuram, Road No. 2, Ramanthapur.

The woman's parents told the police that Rajshree was harassed from the third day of her marriage. On Nov 29, 2003, Srinivaulu took Rajshree with him to the US, but an uneasy calm persisted even there.

The couple came to India on Oct 8, this year after Srinivasulu's mother fell ill in Hanamkonda. When Rajshree's parents went to Hanamkonda, they were asked to pay the additional Rs 5 lakh or take their daughter back.

Rajshree's parents brought her along with them, while Srinivasulu flew back to the US on Oct 25.

This left Rajshree heartbroken and depressed.

A case of dowry death has been registered against Rajshree's father-inlaw Krishnamurthy, mother-in-law Vijayalakshmi and Srinivasulu's uncle Sampath Kumar.
