ROLE OF NRIpress.club:

On January 15, 2017, Sumaiya Patel, NRI 2nd generation girl, Pharmacist from Detroit, Michigan approached NRIpress and wrote, “I am deeply touched and outraged by hearing Siminder Kaur’s story. Please it is my heartfelt request, as a woman and as an NRI to give some light to this issue.  You have the tool to make a difference.”

Through Sumaiya Patel’s telephone calls and emails, Siminder Kaur emails us on January 30, 2017. After talking to her few times, we were really convinced  and started our efforts to help her.

  • We talked her father-in-law Surinder Singh in Mohali two hours and he also requested us to talk her wife. This was a lengthy discussion but at the end we told him, ‘ You must return the child immediately to the parents in US and you have no right to keep him.” This suggestion or statement  made them uncomfortable but at the end we had a nice talk to help  the couple in US
  • We call few times to Vaneet but no response. We left message to help him in this case.
  • Our Communication in US and India started to make a pressure by politically and FBI sources.

As usual, we help lot of divorce, seniors and young drug cases but this story was Unbelievable, morally unacceptable,  unethical-behavior and Unsolved Mystery.

Result: Exactly after 18 days of Sumaiya Patel's email, Vaneet was arrested. After the vaneet's arrest, Siminder Kaur told us that h she hope now her son is coming soon. She also texted us that her son is with her......she is so happy....Oct 23, 2017

Cry for help Approach

Hi

My name is Sumaiya Patel.  I am currently a naturalized US citizen and a non-resident Indian (NRI).  I was born and raised in India, and I have been residing in the US since 2003.  I am proud of my birth country India and I try to stay upto date on Indian policies, cultures, news etc.  Being an NRI, I often wonder if India will protect NRI rights?  When there is an injustice, and I need my birth country to protect me - does India have proper policies to protect those who are right.  Being in the US for all my adult life I have become very aware of some of the deep issues and the different ways different countries handle disputes.  In many ways I have been so proud of India, but lately I have been extremely disappointed.  One heart wrenching story that I have been following for over a year now, along with thousands of other supporters (many of whom are NRI) has really opened my eyes to some gruesome facts.  It is the story of Siminder Kaur.  Siminder was born and raised in Punjab, India.  Her story is far too common, many many girls can relate to her.  She was well educated, and had hopes and dreams.  Siminder fell in love, and she was blinded by love.  She left her family, her life in India, her country all for a man she fell in love for and build a life with him in Memphs, Tennessee, USA.  What she thought was her fairy tale became her worst nightmare.  There were many red flags, but just like many indian women Siminder too believed she can work through them.  Afterall it was a love marriage, how can it not work?  Perhaps, she thought maybe having a kid would bring them closer.  But she was wrong, she was so wrong.  I am deeply touched and outraged by hearing her story.  She is a mom! and she never imagined that their marital dispute would lead her to be a victim of her husband and in-laws master plan of abducting her own child! Anhad who was of tender age of only 15 months, he has been taken away by her in laws and Siminder has been fighting with every bit of energy she has to get him released.  I am just one of the thousands of her supporters who have joined her in her fight.  We can't do much but at least provide her with moral support.  I just want to help her.

I am reaching out to you with a request to give some media coverage on her story.  Her son Anhad who is now over 2 years old, who is an American citizen but has been wrongfully retained by her in-laws in Mohali, Punjab despite the fact that she (his mother) and her husband (Anhad's father) both are permanent resident of US and they are both currently in the US working full time.  She has been brutally separated from her toddler son, at a age when kids NEED mom the most, he is the biggest victim in all of this.  She is fighting this injustice for 10 months, both in India and in US.  Her in laws are rich and have connection, it is not easy to fight alone against influential people.  But my heart aches for her and for her angel of a child Anhad.  That child deserves to have mom and dad's love, but he is deprived of both parents because of father's ego and crazy in laws.  Siminder was always willing to share her son, she never imagined that it is even possible to separate mother and child.  But apparently it is possible, ONLY in India!

I hope you will spend some time to look into her story and help her by just raising awareness.  The most shocking part of this is, she is not the only one who is fighting this kind of battle, there are many NRIs, moms and dads, who use India as safe haven to separate other parent from their own children.

Through Siminder's story I became aware of IPCA (International Parental Child Abduction).  If you can cover her story and raise awareness, it can help many cases like hers, perhaps it can even lead authorities to take some action and put laws in place to protect these children.

Her story is public, she has created a facebook page "A mother's Plight" just to raise awareness and have some support.  In this day and age social media and media coverage can really make a difference.

I have known Siminder for the past year and a half and seen her fight this battle.  She is the strongest and the most amazing mother I have ever seen! If you only read her story and talk to her you will see she is just like any other normal mother.  You can even contact the father if you must and get his side and publish his side if necessary.  But please please publish her story and raise awareness.  We need to stand up for truth

Her story is not uncommon, and that is truly unfortunate.  I am scared that it is so easy to abduct kids to India and alienate a parent forever.  This has to stop! There are many parents like her and because of the rising cases, in March 2016, Punjab and Haryana High court gave recommendations to the Law Commission of India to intervene (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chandigarh/High-court-urges-law-commission-to-recommend-signing-of-Hague-Convention/articleshow/51267040.cms), and sign the Hague Convention. Yet, India is reluctant to sign the Hague Convention for International Child abduction and makes it immensely difficult for parents like Siminder to get access to their abducted children.

Please is my heartfelt request, as a woman and as an NRI to give some light to this issue.  You have the tool to make a difference.

Thank you so much for your response.  My numb xxxxxxxxxx (in file). You can certainly call me.  However, my work schedule is usually busy and I am not able to take the phone call while at work.  I talked to Siminder actually and told her that I got a response from you.  Would it be ok if Siminder Kaur contacts you or Garry Singh directly?  She has more recent and accurate details of her case.  However, if you would like to talk to me to get my perspective let me know.  I can call after I get off from work.

I have been following her story and many other International Parental Child Abduction (IPCA) cases as well.  I became more aware of these cases and IPCA after I learned about Siminder, and how her son has been deceitfully detained in India.  I really hope India takes some urgent actions to give these kids and left behind parents justice.  I hope you will be able to shine some light and make a difference in this matter.

Thank you so much for the email and willingness to help.
