workshop for NRI marriage problems in Kerla
New Delhi,

Ranvir Singh
After first
Workshop on NRI marriage problems at Chandigarh in June, 2006, Vayalar
Ravi Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs will inaugurate a two-day
workshop on Problems of NRI marriages in Thiruvananthapuram.
MOIA, Ministry
of Overseas Indian Affairs and the NCW, National Commission for
Women is organizing this two day workshop starting Sep 14, at Ullor,
Kerala. Kerala's Health and Social Welfare Minister P.K. Sreemathi,
Girija Vyas of NCW will address the workshop
It is confirmed
that this Workshop will find the solution of NRI's marriage problems.
Mr. Ramesh
Mehta from New York told our representative that Indian Govt. is
making more difficult and increasing complications for general problems.
For example:
Anti-dowry law Section 498 (A) of the Indian
Penal Code makes it mandatory for police to book husband and his
parents and other relatives/friends whoever being named on the complaint
by wife or her close relatives and jail them.
This law
open the the doors for more corruption. Some times husband and wife's
problem can be solved by middle men. Most of the time, bride's family
use this 498A tool to punish the bridegroom and make a dead lock
for compromise.
This section
is non-bailable, non-compoundable (complaint can't be quashed) and
cognizable (arrests without investigation to start working on the
case). There are several cases, without investigation initially,
police arrests elderly parents, unmarried sisters, pregnant sisters.
Few parents and sisters have committed suicide after spending some
5 to 15 days in jail.
NRI
husbands claim harassment by anti-dowry law
- It is a form
of legal terrorism
- Everyone
makes money- "We paid a lot of money at every stage. For
them, we (from the US) were like golden ducks
- The woman
who made false statements got away scot-free and was not even
charged with perjury
Most
of the NRIs feel this law must be changed and no body should be
arrested without court's decision.
Vayalar
Ravi Minister
is a lawyer and he must understand NRI's problems to attract investment
in India. NRIs must be encourage to fight in the court and believe
in our scour system.
