VISAS TO PUNJABIS WHO SOUGHT POLITICAL ASYLUM DURING MILITANCY

Sekhwan pleads for liberal view on visas –calls on Consul General in San Francisco

Chandigarh, April 26:

Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan called on Mrs.Susmita Gongulee Thomas, Consul General of India in San Francisco to plead for liberal view on those unfortunate Punjabis who sought political asylum in US during dark days of militancy and were now being forced to live in ‘enforced exile’.

Demanding a liberal view on visas to such unfortunate Punjabis who don’t have any criminal background, Mr. Sekhwan said that as Minister in charge, he was receiving scores of requests from the families of these persons. He said that it was matter of great regret that these Punjabis had to seek asylum due to peculiar political situation in the state during those dark days. He said that these Punjabis are being denied the basic right of meeting their families in Punjab despite return of normalcy in Punjab since last two decades.

The Minister also raised the point of alleged corrupt practices by local travel agents in arranging visas and passports for vulnerable Punjabis in US.

Taking a serious view of the corruption allegations  against some unauthorized agents the Consul General asked for written complaints and assured Mr Sekhwan that she would thoroughly get enquired the complaints.  She assured that if anyone was found guilty, he would have to face the music.

Mr Sekhwan was accompanied by Mr Jobanjit Singh, Talwinder Gill, Ronak Singh (L.A.), Vikram Singh, Parmjit S. Pamma (Yuba City), Rajbir S. Panu (Selma).

PUNJAB CM CALLS ON AK ANTONY FOR CLEARANCE OF NATIONAL DEFENCE UNIVERSITY IN PUNJAB

 

CHANDIGARH APRIL 26:

 Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today urged the Union Defence Minister Mr. A.K. Antony to seek his personal intervention for an early clearance to set up a National Defence University in Punjab.      

Mr. Badal called on the Union Defence Minister in his office at New Delhi this evening.  The Chief Minister apprised Mr. Antony that the state government had already earmarked an area of nearly 230 acre located in Sector 92 of SAS Nagar Mohali for the proposed University. He said that the establishment of National Defence University in Punjab would further encourage sense of military allurement in the State, besides fulfilling the long pending demand of Punjabis to have at least one premier Defence Institute in the State.

The Chief Minister also impressed upon Mr. Antony for setting up of RVC Squadron at Ghudda and NCC Naval unit at Bathinda to encourage and attract the students in the state to join the NCC.  He also requested the Union Defence Minister to immediately clear the pending proposal of the state government relating to establish a Greenfield Aerotropolis near Ludhiana, besides seeking instrument flight rules instead of visual flight rules. 

The Chief Minister also extended invitation to Mr. Antony to participate in the tercentenary celebrations of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s Sirhind Fateh Divas at Sirhind (Fatehgarh Sahib) on May 14.        

Meanwhile, Mr. Antony assured the Chief Minister of positive response to all the issues raised by him.    He also informed Mr.Badal that he would soon take up the other issues with the senior officers of the Ministry to resolve them at the earliest.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by his Principal Secretary Mr. DS Guru and Special Principal Secretary Mr. KJS Cheema.

SURJIT SINGH ABLOWAL APPOINTED AS CHAIRMAN OF

BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF PUNJAB STATE SEED CORPORATION LTD.

CHANDIGARH April 26:

The Punjab Government today appointed Mr. Surjit Singh Ablowal as Chairman of Board of Directors of Punjab State Seed Corporation Ltd.

Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Punjab Government informed that Mr. Surjit Singh had been appointed as Chairman of Punjab State Seed  Corporations Ltd. under the Article 122 of the Memorandum and Article of Association of the Punjab State Seed Corporation Ltd. The terms and the conditions of the appointment of Mr. Surjit Singh Ablowal will be issued separately.

A notification to this effect had already been issued by the Financial Commissioner Development Punjab, the spokesman added.

BHANDARI TAKES OVER AS VICE CHAIRMAN

PUNJAB STATE PLANNING BOARD

 Chandigarh April 26:

Mr. Rajinder Bhandari senior BJP leader and former President of state BJP today took over as the Vice-Chairman Punjab state Planning Board in the presence of various leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party , Mr. Manoranjan Kalia Industries & Local Bodies Minister Punjab and hundreds of his supporters from all over the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhandari reiterated the state government’s resolve to provide clean transparent governance to its people. He assured the people of the state that the schemes launched by the central government being implemented by the sate planning board would be closely monitored by him personally and the benefit would reach at the grass root levels, said Mr. Bhandari. He also said that he would mainly focus on the schemes launched for the population living below the poverty line so that their living conditions could be improved. 

Prof. Bhandari expressed his gratefulness to the BJP National President Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Punjab Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal, Mr. Balbir Punj, M.P., Mr. Manoranjan Kalia, Cabinet Minister and Mr. Ashwani Sharma, State BJP President for reposing faith in him and giving this responsibility in the State Government.

91.60 LAKH TONNES WHEAT PROCURED IN PUNJAB

Chandigarh, April 26:

Government agencies and private millers procured more than 91.60 lakh tonnes of wheat till last evening as compared to  92.91 lakh tones in previous year on the day.

Out of total procurement of 91.60 lakh tonnes of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 91.33 lakh tonnes of wheat (99.7%) till date whereas private traders procured 26763 tonnes (0.3%) of wheat. Till April 25, PUNGRAIN had procured 15.14 lakh tonnes (16.5%) whereas MARKFED procured 21.30 lakh tonnes (23.3%). PUNSUP procured 20.55 lakh tonnes (22.4%), PSWC procured 10.15 lakh tonne (11.1%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 9.39 lakh tonnes (10.3%) of wheat.

The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 14.78 lakh tonnes (16.1%). 

The spokesman added that District Ferozepur with 10.16 lakh tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Sangrur with 8.74 lakh tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala with 7.95 lakh tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.   

The State Government has set up 1650 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat, the spokesman added.

SUBMIT SHAMLATS AND MUSHTARKA-MALKAAN LANDS DETAILED RECORDS TILL 30TH JUNE-BRAHMPURA

 

Chandigarh April 25 : With a view to keep check on the illegal possessions on village Shamlats and Mushtarka-Malkaan lands, the Punjab Government has directed to submit the detailed records of such common lands at village level till 30th June.

Disclosing this Mr. Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Punjab said that the state government was categorically opposed to the illegal disposition of village common lands to unscrupulous tillers or persons in connivance with officers, as such lands were the revenue generating sources and lifelines for the development of villages. All the field officers of the Rural Development department has been instructed to submit detailed records including annual Jamabandis of village Shamlats and Mushtarka-Malkaan lands at the earliest, he added.

To generate more revenue from annual auctions for agricultural purposes of village Shamlats, he has also directed the development officers to enhance per acre auction rates from the previous year auctions (bolis) and asked to complete the auction process till 31st May in a fair and transparent manner by announcing fixed dates publicly to the farmers. "The auctioneer officer would have to ensure to deposit the declared full auction amount after the successful auction of land in the bank on the same day, else the erring officer would have to face the disciplinary action", warned Mr. Brahmpura.

The Rural Development Minister also directed the officers to dispose of all pending cases under sections 7 and 11 of Panchayats Act within two months so that litigants should not suffer. "Strict caution has also been issued to properly monitor and supervise the court cases pending in various subordinate courts including High court and Supreme court and no leniency would be tolerated in dishonestly delaying the cases", the Minister said.

Suggesting the optimal utilization of surplus lands under the village focal points, Mr Brahmpura said that out of total 6,434 acres of land earmarked for various rural focal points about 1,185 acres were still laying unutilized. He asked the field officers to prepare cases for restoration of such unutilized common lands to the concerned village panchayats so that they could fetch revenues for the village development.

DGP announces Rs. 5 lac each for the ‘Martyrs’

Chandigarh April 25:-

The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today announced an immediate relief of Rs. 10 lac each to the next of the kin of the two brave and patriotic members of the Punjab Police Force, Head Constable Narinder Singh and Constable Surinder Singh, who died fighting Pakistani intruders in Gurdaspur district last night. In addition the Punjab Director General of Police Mr. P.S. Gill also announced Rs. 5 lac each for the families of the deceased.

In a statement Mr. Badal paid glowing tributes to the bravery, patriotism and National zeal shown by the two police personnel. Mr. Badal described the two as ‘Martyrs to the cause of defense, unity   and integrity of the country’. The Chief Minister also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the tragic and sad demise of these two police personnel and expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved families,  praying the Almighty to give strength to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace to the departed soul.

According to the Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Mr. Harcharan Bains Mr. Badal also announced that one dependent member each of the family of the deceased would be given government job as per eligibility. The Chief Minister further announced that the families of these police personnel would continue to get the full regular salary of the deceased till the scheduled date of their retirement.

In addition, the families would also been entitled for the post retrial benefits including full pension, gratuity and other benefits etc. from the deemed date of retirement of the two police personnel, added the Media Advisor.

REVISION OF PHOTO VOTER LISTS OF ALL ASSEMBLY CONSTITUENCIES OF PUNJAB STARTS FROM April 25, 2010

 

Chandigarh April,25 :

 After the conversion of the voter lists into UNICODE of all Assembly Constituencies of Punjab State, The Election Commission of India has decided to revise these w.e.f April 25, 2010.  

Disclosing this here today Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Ms. Kusumjit Sidhu said that Booth level officers would check the list of voters from door to door from 25-04-2010 to 15-06-2010 for this purpose.

She urged all the political parties  in particular and  the people of Punjab in General to Co-operate with the Booth level officers and check the details like Name, Father's/wife name, House number, Sex, Date of Birth and Voter Id  number etc in the voter lists. If they found any error or omission, then it should be brought into the notice of  the concerned  officer.

According to the Instructions of the Election Commission of India the photograph of the voter is compulsory in voter list. She appealed to the voters to check their photograph in the lists and if it not match then ask the officer to remove it and by replacing new one.  

She also told that if the voter's name was registered twice, the present address was changed, or any person was missing or dead then a specific reason must be brought into the notice of  the visiting officer. Voters may seek more information from the District Electoral Officer/Electoral  Registration Officer/Electoral Tehsildar, she added.
