MOU BETWEEN SULABH INTERNATIONAL
AND PUNJAB GOVERNMENT
STRATEGIC TIE UP FOR HYGIENE PROJECTS IN PUNJAB

Celebrated global social service organisation, Sulabh International,
today firmed up a strategic tie-up with the Punjab government
for a statewide hygiene programme. The Sulabh would join up the
state government initially for the construction of public &
private hygiene units, including improvised, low flush toilets
for the rural and the urban poor in three districts, focusing
on the Kandi areas of Hoshiarpur, the waterlogged areas of Mukatsar
and the border belt of Tarn Taran districts. These however would
be pilot projects for ultimately bringing the entire state with
in the ambit of the project.
The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding when athe
founder of the international social service body Padam Vibhushan
Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak called on the Punjab Chief Minister Mr.
Parkash Singh Badal here this morning. All 12500 odd villages
as well as several urban areas of the state are proposed to be
covered under the project.
The India-based organization SISSO works to promote human rights,
environmental sanitation, usage of non-conventional sources of
energy, waste management and social reforms through education.
Initially, the organization would execute the construction of
of 519 units of Sulabh Shauchalya (Pour-Flush Toilets) in four
villages Panjwa (105 Units), Sikhwala (192 Units), Tarmala (93
Units) & Gaggar (129 Units) at total cost of Rs. 51.90 lacs.
Each unit will cost Rs. 10,000.
The Chief Minister expressed his concern to provide Sulabh toilets
in the poorest of the poor areas in rural and urban Punjab. He
invited Dr. Pathak to visit the interior Punjab to have first
hand information about the sanitation problems and suggest ways
and means to tackle these effectively. The Chief Minister was
highly impressed by the presentation made by Dr. Pathak to highlight
the activities and achievement of SISSO.
Dr. Pathak said that the programmes initiated by SISSO include
projects to obtain bio-gas from human excreta and make it available
for various uses like cooking, street lighting and to provide
pour-flush toilets facility in individual houses as well as public
places on the pay-and-use basis. The organisation has also done
premier works in , poverty alleviation, employment generation
and creating change-agent for integrated rural development.
Mr. Badal assured Dr. Pathak of state government's fulsome support
in his mission to provide clean sanitation to the people of Punjab
especially in the rural areas through the concept of 'Sulabh Shauchalaya'.

CHANN GORAYA WALA'S ANTHOLOGY OF SONGS
ON GURU RAVI DASS JI

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today released
an anthology of songs 'Ekta De Pujari' on Guru Ravi Dass ji in
Punjabi composed by a celebrated Punjabi songs writer Chann Goraya
Wala here at Chief Minister residence this morning.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Badal congratulated Chann Goraya
Wala on the release of book and asked him to promote the Punjabi
culture through traditional folk songs. He highly appreciated
Chann's rare creation in highlighting the life and philosophy
of Guru Ravi Dass ji in the idiom of common man. The Chief Minister
called upon the Punjabi writers and artists to promote the bonds
of love and communal harmony in the society.
The Chief Minister also released the Video CD on Tele film 'Bhim
Mahan' produced by Adbi Mehak Productions on the life and mission
of great revolutionary and architect of Indian Constitution Baba
Sahib Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
PROVIDE ALL BASIC
FACILITIES TO URBAN POOR- DR. H.S. ANAND

Housing Units for Urban poor in all state should be completed
in all respects, which includes all basic facilities like Water
Supply, Sanitation, Drainage, Roads, Street Lighting, Solid Waste
Management etc. So that Urban Poor could live comfortably in these
Units.
Expressing these views in a high level meeting to review the
progress on implementation of Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP)
and Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP)
under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM)
for the States of Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh
and J & K. Dr. H.S.Anand, Secretary, Housing & Urban Poverty
Alleviation (HUPA) Government of India, said that bring any project
with realistic cost and fulfilling required conditions would be
cleared without any delay.
Issuing guidelines to concerned Secretaries of all the States
Mr. Anand stressed upon quality control. He said that until the
third party clears the quality of the constructed building, only
then the next installment would be cleared.
He said that identify some additional peace of land near the
site make mols to generate extra fund. The state have to provide
services in transparent manner as these scheme were on no profit
no loss. He also reviewed the progress of on going works of all
the States.
Mr. D.S. Bains, Principal Secretary Local Government Punjab while
giving presentation said that the State of Punjab had made tremendous
achievements under the BSUP & IHSDP scheme. The Detailed Project
Report amounting to Rs.114.83 crore of construction of flats for
slum dwellers in Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana has already
been approved and 1st installment of Rs.22.00 crore has been released
by Government of India under these schemes.
Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included
Mr. Samir Kumar Director Local Government Punjab, Ms. Naseema
Lankar, Secretary, J & K, Housing and Urban Development; Dr.
Manjit Singh, Secretary, Government of Rajasthan, Local Self Government,
Sh. S.K.Sharma, Secretary Government of Himachal Pradesh and Sh.
Mohanjit Singh, Chairman, Chandigarh Housing Board alongwith Commissioners
and other officers from the above State would also participate
in the review meeting.
