Chandigarh 21 June - The Shiromani Akali Dal President
Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal has convened an emergency meeting of Core
Committee of the Party to discuss the situation arising out of
yesterday’s firing incident that took place in Mumbai.
The meeting will be held on June 23 at 10’o clock in Chandigarh.
The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal will also attend
this meeting.

Chief Minister Welcome Pak decision on Indian Nationals
Chandigarh, June 21, 2008
The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today welcomed
the gesture of the Pakistan Government in commuting the death
sentence of two Indian Nationals Sarabjit Singh and Kirpal Singh
into life imprisonment. He expressed the hope that the process
would be taken forward to its logical conclusion resulting in
the eventual Release of the two Indian Nationals.
In a statement here Mr. Badal also called for a further widening
of the scope of this sane, humanitarian and statesman-like approach
to include many others undergoing similar incarceration in the
two Countries. This he said would be in the larger interest of
Peace, Harmony and understanding among the people of the Sub Continent.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the role played by the champions
of human rights and dignity, like Mr. Ansar Burney former Human
Rights Minister of Pakistan in bringing matters to a more humane
climax. He also placed on record his gratitude for the efforts
made by the Government of India, especially the Prime Minister
Dr. Manmohan Singh and the Ministry of External Affairs in this
regard.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal has
conveyed his felicitations and good wishes to the families of
Sarabjit Singh and Karpal Singh. In a message to the members of
the two families, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is also the president
of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has said that the positive development
should be used to usher in a new era of greater understanding
and co- operation between the two Countries at people to people
level. He said that his party would continue its efforts for ensuring
release of Sarabjit Singh and Kirpal Singh as well as others falling
in this category.

MAJITHIA THANKS BADAL FOR
GETTING THE DEATH SENTENCE OF SARABJIT AND KIRPAL COMMUTED

Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia, Patron Youth Akali Dal and Information
& Public Relations Minister today thanked the Punjab Chief
Minister S. Parkash Singh in getting the death sentence of two
Punjabis in Pakistan Jails, Mr. Sarbjit Singh and Kirpal Singh,
commuted to life imprisonment. He also thanked Mr. Ansar Burney
former Human Rights Minister of Pakistan for his untiring efforts
in this case.
Thanking on behalf of people Mr. Majithia said that citizens
of this country would remember the missionary role played by S.Parkash
Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab in getting two Punjabis Sarabjit
and Kirpal back from gallows. He said that it was S. Badal who
mooted the idea of unanimous resolution in Pumjab Vidhan Sabha
requesting the external affair ministry to plead the case of Sarabjit
Singh and all prisoners languishing in the Jails of Pakistan,
effectively. He said that S. Badal met many members of Parliament
and Ministers to exert moral pressure on the Pakistan Government
to reconsider the case of all Punjabis including Sarabjit.
Effectively launching a campaign S. Badal also invited Mr.Ansar
Burney former Human Rights Minister of Pakistan to Punjab so that
he could meet the family of Sarabjit and know the realty at ground
level. He said that unstinted and focused efforts of S. Badal
and our President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal have at last shown results
as Pakistan government today commuted death sentence all prisoners
on death row including Sarabjit and Kirpal.
S. Majithia said that SAD-BJP government under the leadership
of S. Parkash Singh Badal had taken a series of measures to normalize
people to people contact with Pakistan and enhance trade activity
with the neighbouring country. He said that S. Badal has taken
all measure to make Amritsar trading hub of South East Asia. He
said that S. Badal has started the road route for trade with Pakistan
and resultantly import of cement by Attari Border helped the country
in stabilizing cement prices in the country.
Mr. Majithia said that SAD-BJP government under the dynamic
leadership of S. Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab and
visionary guidance of president SAD Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal would
continue to work for hounorable release of all innocent prisoners
languishing in the jails of neighbouring country.
