Punjab greeted the people on the occasion of Janamashtami and
called for strengthening the commitment to remain united in seeking

In his message minister also said that " The life &
teachings of Lord Krishna have a universal message as they signify
and constitute a rejection of intolerance and narrow mindedness.
" On this day may we strengthen our commitment to remain
united in seeking to build a society based on respect for diversity,
he added.
Central
Team to Visit Flood Affected Areas in Punjab

A 7- member Central team led by Joint Secretary (Disaster Management),
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Mr. Prabhanshu Kamal will visit
the flood affected areas in Punjab tomorrow to access the damage
caused to the crops, House property beside the loss of human lives.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Punjab Government
said that the team would visit Makhu in Ferozpur District, Sanghra
in Moga District, Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala District and Lohian
in District (Jalandhar). The spokesman said that the team would
submit its detailed report to the Union Home Minister, Mr. Shiv
Raj Patil for the special compensation package for flood affected
areas.
The team would be accompanied by Mrs, Romila Dubey, Financial
Commissioner Revenue and Mr. Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary
Irrigation and Power. The Central team included Dr. G.K Chadhary,
Director (DWD), Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperation; Mr.
Y.C Sharma, Deputy Director (FCD), Department of Expenditure,
Ministry of Finance; Dr. Amarjeet Kaur, Director (Health &
FW), Health & Family Welfare; Mrs. Anjali Chandra, Director,
Ministry of Power; Mr. M.P Singh Director, (FCA), Ministry of
Water; Mr. Ashok Kumar Nagpal, SUPT. (Engineer), Road Transport
& Highways.
Ranike congratulates boxer
Vijender and wrestler Sushil Kumar Victory in Beijing Olympics

S. Gulzar Singh Ranike Sports Minister Punjab congratulated
Boxer Mr. Vijender and Wrestler Sushil Kumar for their outstanding
performance in bagging Bronze Medals for India in the Beijing
Olympics 2008.
Sports Minister said that shootor Abhinav Bindra's Gold and the
heroics of boxer Vijender and wrestler Sushil Kumar who earned
a Bronze each has made the 29th Olympics games the best ever of
India.
Minister also said that Vijender became the first Indian Boxer
won a Bronze in 75 KG category. Wrestler Sushil Kumar by winning
a Bronze in 66 KG freestyle. Thus repeating this after 56 years
because it was in 1952 that Independent India won its first individual
Bronze medal through another wrestler Mr. K.D Jaidev.
Mr. Ranike said that the achievement of Abhinav, Vijender and
Sushil Kumar would go a long way in putting sports persons on
a high pedestal.
PUNJAB CM GREETS PEOPLE
ON THE EVE OF JANAMASTMI

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today extended
warm greetings to the people of Punjab on the sacred occasion
of Janamastmi - the Birthday of Lord Krishana.
In a message on the eve of this auspicious occasion, Mr. Badal
said that Lord Krishna was an apostle of peace, saviour of Dharma
and symbol of truthfulness and righteousness. His long philosophical
sermon contained in 'Srimad Bhagwat Geeta' has a profound impact
on the present materialistic society and was still more relevant
in the modern age to attain spiritualism and eternal peace, strengthen
the bonds of communal harmony and universal brotherhood.
Mr. Badal appealed the people to celebrate this sacred day in
unison and with religious fervour and gaiety rising above the
petty considerations of caste, creed and religion. He exhorted
the people to follow the teachings of Lord Krishana so as to attain
eternal peace, prosperity and happiness in life.
