With Focus on Fitness the Punjabi Cultural
Society of Chicago (P.C.S.) will organize
Chicagoland's 10th annual healthier community fun fair
"Punjabi Sports Festival 2004"
on Sunday, August 8, 2004, 9am-6pm
at Palatine Community Park,
250 E. Wood St., Palatine. (Chicago)

There will be many sports and fun events for children, ladies and men.
Free continental breakfast, kool-aid drinks and
Punjabi lunch will be provided to all in attendance. Punjabi music D.J.
will be on all day. There is no entrance fee for the

Kabaddi match, between Chicago, Milwaukee, Kalamazoo and Indianapolis
teams will be the highlight of the day.
A parade of the participants and cultural presentations will be held
during Festival Parade at 12:00noon. Various dignitaries
have been invited including Governor, Senators, Congressmen State representatives
and City Mayors.
"Bhangra Aerobics" class, another P.C.S. innovation, is scheduled
at 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM. Sikh martial art "Gatka" will also
be demonstrated.
Deadline for teams to enter the tournament is August 1, 2004 noon. Individual
participants can register before or on the day
of the event by 1:00pm.

Due to a large number of contesting teams, the Basketball and Volleyball
tournament matches, will be played on Saturday,
August 7, 2004, 11:00AM to 6 PM, at the same place, Palatine Community
Park, Palatine. The semifinals & final for the
Volleyball will be on Sunday, August 8th.
Kabaddi, Soccer, Volleyball & Kho-Kho will start early due to a busy
schedule of juniors, adults and women's teams. Athletic
events will include track and field events, most of the Olympic style
races for different age groups, shot put and also weight
lifting.
Prize distribution to the winners will highlight the fun-filled closing
ceremonies.
Trophies or medals will be awarded to the first and second place athletes
for individual sports and the team players. P.C.S.
Kabaddi Cup, Soccer Cup, Volleyball Cup and Basketball Cup will be awarded
to the winning teams. Winning Kabaddi team
will be awarded $2,000.
This is an all day community event starting at 9 AM. Arts and crafts,
Children Activity booth by Children Museum, Rock &
Vote by Asian Social Network, Health booth by IAICP and other vendor booths
are also being planned. Fun games for the
seniors and adults will include musical chairs and tug-of-war.
The program is not for profit. Sponsors and donors will be appropriately
recognized at the festival.
"Focus on fitness is the Punjabi tradition, we must encourage our
youth to get involved in sports to continue that tradition of
happy and healthy life style," said Dr. Harjinder S. Khaira, the
President of Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago.
P.C.S. is a not for profit community organization devoted to promoting
Punjabi culture, performing arts and sports in
metropolitan Chicago area.
Punjabi Cultural Society Of Chicago (PCS) as an organization is motivated
to promoting the Punjabi culture, language, sports
and performing arts of the North-Indian State of Punjab among its community
members and also mainstream Americans in
the Midwest and beyond. PCS caters to this need both by directly organizing
events that bring community members together
from all over the Midwest region and by facilitating participation of
its community members in mainstream activities.
