Inland Empire Celebrated Annual "Mela Teeyan Da"with Great Success

This year Mela teeyan da was celebrated in Diamond Bar center in Diamond bar, California on Sep.10, 2011 from 1pm to 6pm. More then six hundred ladies and girls came from all the way from Bakersfield and Delano, California. Ladies got together from near and far with great enthusiasm.

Baljit toor President of Virsa American Punjabi club welcomed the audience and started the program. Mela teeyan da started with slow face but by 2: 00 pm the Mela was on full swing. Baljit Toor involved the audience with chutkale poetry and Tapey. Namreet Virk sang Punjabi songs. “Kunjan Punjab deiyan’ host team sang a song which was really enjoyed by the public. Followed by Bhangra by “Sohnian Kyrian.”
Fashion Show, Choreographed by Harpreet Deogan gave a new flavor to the Mela. There were few other competitions like Atta Gunan Competition and Pani Hathi roti making competition. California Gatka Dal Riverside’s performance was breath taking. Beautiful Gataka acts were shown by young girls ages 8-12 years.
Other teams who participated in Mela teeyan da were La Gidha team, Gidha Mutiaran da, PCS San Diego team, Gidha by Beauna Park Diayan Shoukeen Mutiyaran was a fabulious performance by Mothers and Daughters Host team “Kunja Punjab deeyan” from Virsa American Punjabi Club, Cerographed by Herpreet Sekhon finished the first half of the mela with their dashing performance. Every one joined them on the floor for half an hour continues Gidha.
Mothers and daughter’s bhabis and Nanads and friends were dncing and enjoying the day. No Punjabi mela can be complete without gole gupe, chat, samosa and mouth watering lunches and mithais.
There were jewelry and clothes stalls.
Miss Punjaban- This year Competition of Miss Punjaban was from 5Pm to 6pm. Nine most beautiful girls Participated in the completion. Judges Mrs. Sharanjeet Samara, Guneet Kaur from UC L.A Kulwinder Kaur, Kamal Bath, and Navreet Kaur from Beunapark were given the task to pick most cultured, intelligent, well informed, Punjabi girl, who also came to the mela in full Punjabi attire. The Title of Miss Punjaban was given to Lave preet kaur. First runners up were Navdeep Bhinder and third place was taken by Raman Dhariwal. Miss Punjaban was crowned by Mina Gill who was a prim sponsor of the show. Sadia Riasat from House of beauty gave her a $200 Gift card from Macy’s. Ashish from Little India Travels also gave a gift to Miss Punjaban.
This whole program was put together by the host team Harpreet Sekhon, Narinder Virk, Mina Bhasin, Jaspal mann, Neetu Chokar, Kulwinder Nakaie, Rosy Singh, Harmeet Kaur , Beeba Saluja , Deepee Brar, Gurjeet Johal, Jindi Talwar and Baljit toor.
