Various Sikh groups in the capital on Saturday submitted
a memorandum to the French ambassador to lodge their
protest against the ban on wearing turban by Sikh
children in French schools.
The groups, led by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management
Committee (DSGMC) member Manmohan Singh Kochhar, held
a demonstration against the turban ban at the Jantar
Mantar in New Delhi and later submitted a memorandum
to the French ambassador.
In the memorandum, Kochhar asked the French government
to "scrap such ethnic laws which hit the dignity
of the Sikhs at their very root."
Kochhar said they are also approaching all members
of Parliament so that a resolution could be passed
upholding the dignity of Sikhs.
The Sikh groups, including Youth Akali Dal (Delhi)
and World Sikh Organisation, also urged Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh to take up the issue with the French
government so that all those Sikh children who have
been expelled on this count could go back to their
schools
