Shanno Ki Shaadi

Story :

NRI Sindhi boy falls in love with Punjabi girl who loves making paranthas for her father's dhaba in Punjab

Produced by UTV, the cast of Shanno Ki Shaadi includes Kamini Kaushal (Shanno’s grandmother), Kulbhushan Kharbanda (as Shanti Lal Halwai), Shoma Anand (Shanno’s mother) and Vikas Bhalla. It is being aired every Sunday at 10.30 p.m.

Shanno Ki Shaadi

She is simple. She is naive. She loves making paranthas for her father's dhaba. She is happy being the bride-in-waiting, waiting patiently for her prince charming to surface. She is least concerned about what people think of her. That's Shanno for you, the daughter of Shanti Lal Halwai, who thinks that his daughter, Shanno, is the most suitable girl for any man in search of a wife.

Set against the backdrop of the beautiful landscape of Punjab - green fields, flowing streams and scenic landscapes, Shanno Ki Shaadi is a simple story of a young girl whose extended family is keen to see her married. Their concern is that her biological clock is ticking away. At 26, they feel Shanno is over the hill and must get married immediately.

Shanno's marriage is one of the most important topics discussed in the neighbourhood. In spite of having a "matchmaker" aunt in the family and despite the fact that Shanno herself meets enough young men who come to the dhaba to relish her paranthas, she's yet to find a proper match. Shanno's mother is very concerned about her daughter's plight.

She thinks Shanno has shut herself from the idea of marriage, and hence not meeting any suitable groom. She decides to tell Shanno that she dreamt that Matarani, the Goddess, told her that Shanno will soon find a groom. Shanno laughs it off, but finds herself waiting for the arrival of her prince charming!

Like all fairytales, Shanno's dream too comes true. She does meet him. But who is this prince charming? Is it just a passing dream or is he here to sweep Shanno off her feet? Will Shanno give in to the pressures of the family or will Shanno fall in love?

Shanno Ki Shaadi is a simple story with characters that are very real and true to life. The 15-episode serial is funny and heart warming at once. Produced by UTV, the cast of Shanno Ki Shaadi includes Kamini Kaushal (Shanno's grandmother), Kulbhushan Kharbanda (as Shanti Lal Halwai), Shoma Anand (Shanno's mother), Vikas Bhalla and Divya Dutta in the role of Shanno.

VIKAS BHALLA
Actor cum singer

Currently seen in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin as Armaan's friend, he is now set to play the lead in Star Plus's new show Shanno Ki Shaadi.

He is also looking forward to the release of his films, 'Pyaar Mein Twist', 'Marigold', and 'Choodiyan'. There's also a music album releasing this year. What more could one ask for!

'Shanno Ki Shaadi sounds like a hilarious serial!
It is along the lines of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It's very family-oriented and deals with a Sindhi and Punjabi family. I am playing, Anil Sadarangani, an NRI Sindhi. Anil is a very suave character but his parents are typically Sindhi. They wear flashy clothes at home while having breakfast and dark glasses while having dinner

"My character meets her and falls in love with her. It actually begins with my love for the paratha she makes at the dhaba," he narrates.
Vikas doesn't forget to mention that Divya was generous enough to have made parathas for everyone on the sets. "She made such lovely parathas," he confesses. He is also working on his music album which will release by the end of the year. He will feature in three films; Marigold, Choodiyaan and Pyar Mein twist.

Divya Dutta

STAR Plus is in a overdrive. After KBC 2 and Baa Bahoo Aur Baby, the channel launched another new weekly serial Shanno Ki Shaadi starring Divya Dutta as the simple Shanno. Shanno’s mother thinks Shanno has shut herself from the idea of marriage, and hence is not meeting any suitable groom. She decides to tell Shanno that she dreamt Matarani, the Goddess, told her that Shanno will soon find her groom. Shanno laughs it off, but finds herself actually waiting for the arrival of her prince charming. Like most fairytales, Shanno’s dream too comes true. She does meet him. But who is this prince charming? Is it just a passing dream or is he here to sweep Shanno off her feet? Will Shanno give in to the pressures of the family or will Shanno fall in love?

Actress Shoma Anand

Actress Shoma Anand has evolved as the reigning mother of television serials — her latest act as Swaran, the doting mother of Shanno (Divya Dutta) in the Star weekly, Shanno Ki Shaad

Set in rural Punjab, Shanno Ki Shaadi is the story of a young girl whose family is keen to get her married. Swaran, a perfect homemaker and loving mother of three daughters, is desperate and hyper about Shanno’s marriage.

Shoma won acclaim for playing the supportive mother in popular sitcom, Hum Paanch, and in Bhabhi, and as the envious neighbour in Shararat.

“I love playing a mother, more so when there’s a humour element in the plot. I’m focussed about playing mother roles as they suit me best,” she says.

Shoma is also gearing up for the second season of Hum Paanch, where she’ll play a grandma. She will also be seen in Neeraj Vohra’s film, Dil Sacha Aur Chehra Jhuta. “In the film, I’m hired by the lead actor to play a mother — but I’m a bar owner,” says the actress.
