“Slumdog Millionaire” bags ten Oscar nominations

Danny Boyle's Golden Globe-winning Slumdog Millionaire ––a story based on Mumbai slums has been nominated in ten categories for the Academy Awards to be announced in February 2009.

A R Rahman has been nominated for original score and Song, one Oscar nomination each for Jai Ho and O Saya.

Slumdog has been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Picture, Best Original Score, Best Song, Best editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Director at the Oscars.

Slumdog Millionare has already bagged four coveted Golden Globes and multiple Bafta nominations.

''The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,'' a drama in which Brad Pitt plays a man who ages backward, led the field of Oscar contenders with 13 nominations.

And now Director Danny Boyle is keeping his fingers crossed for winning the Oscar while the whole of India is counting on Rahman to bring home Oscar and rewrite the history books.

The 81st Academy Awards will be announced on 22nd February at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. (NZ-22/01)
