The Indo American Social Association (IASA) of California celebrate Baisakhi Mela

The Indo American Social Association (IASA) celebrated their Grand Opening Gala and Baisakhi Mela on Sunday, 31st March in Aroma Indian Restaurant in Upland, CA. This grand event marked one of the most important dates of the Sikh Calendar, which is Baisakhi. Baisakhi is the New Year and harvest festival celebrating happiness and plenty.


The Indo American Social Association (IASA) was started with a mission to unite the community, to organize people to strive for a society that places equality, dignity and respect above all else. It is striving towards providing cultural, social, and intellectual integration. IASA president, Rajbir Singh Husson wants to make a change from Division to togetherness, from Religious Fanaticism to Spiritualism and unconditional forgiveness and unconditional love.


The three Main Chapters of IASA are:

1. Main Body: Which is responsible for promoting charitable, political, & social functions for Indo- American Community, unite the community and have one voice!

 2. Youth Group: Is a place for youth to make an impact. It includes networking, forums with Community Leaders regarding Issues affecting Youth. Today's Youth, Tomorrow's Leaders. Let us encourage and motivate our youth to create a brighter future through this Youth Group.

3. Women’s Group: This group will focus on women’s empowerment and help in resolution of women’s issues. The IASA Women’s Empowerment group redefines “The empowered women are powerful beyond measure and beautiful beyond description”.

IASA will work to make life better; IASA will give the platform needed to create a fairer society and creating strong ties.

Honorable Mayor of Anaheim, Harry Sidhu was the Chief Guest of the evening and received a plaque from IASA. Hon. Mayor Harry Sidhu commended all dedicated IASA organizers for bringing the community together in this unique social event and presented a certificate of recognition to IASA. Ali Sajjad Taj, Councilmember of Artesia, also emphasized on unity and received a plaque by IASA. Rajpal Sangha received the Youth ambassador award for elected as chairperson for planning commission for city of Fontana. Hon. Mayor Harry Sidhu presented Rashpal Singh Dhindsa, United Sikh Mission Founder, with the Humanitarian Award for  Eye Camp: in various villages in India (360 to date), 206k Eye Drops donated, 122k eyeglasses donated, and 22.5 k Cataract Surgeries performed.

SSY members also graced the evening. SSY is highly scientific modern day Yoga, suited for busy people, to start living a more fulfilled and centered life. SSY focuses on Yoga and Meditation.
