FIA-SC ELECTS APRNA HANDE ITS NEW PRESIDENT FOR 2011-12

Federation of Indo-American Associations of Southern California (FIA-SC) held its annual board meeting in Lakewood and:
- Unanimously elected Aparna Hande as its new president for the year 2011-12.
- The board also unanimously elected the following executive committee members; Baljinder S. Tahim – Executive VP, Venkat Gopalan – Secretary, Ajay Tongire – Treasurer, and Rakesh Khandelwal – Joint Secretary.
Aparna Hande joined the FIA-SC in 1990 and has been an integral part of it ever since. She is a tireless and dedicated community worker. She is well liked by everyone who had the privilege to know her. She has held various positions in FIA-SC including Executive VP last years. She had a humble beginning at small village in Maharashtra (India) and educated herself against all odds. Her success in life is purely the result of her own efforts.
Aparna was born a village Naneli, Taluka (Maharashtra). She graduated in 1966 as Registered Nurse (RN) from JJ Group of Hospitals, Bombay and worked in Indian Army as Captain in Medical Field in Kashmir near Pakistan Border from 1966-1970. She attained her Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from University of La Verne, CA in 1988 after moving to USA in 1974. She has worked in various hospitals as RN in USA and gradually moved up to assume Nurse Manager’s position in Pacific Alliance Medical Center, China Town, Los Angeles in 1999. Currently she is a Quality Manager in Alliance Medical Center. Before moving to USA Aparna Hande worked in Africa under Ministry of Health Care at Ambala, Zambia from 1971-1974.
Aparna is involved in many community affairs such as helping Abused Indian Women from any part of the United States of America. She shelters them at her home and helps them find the jobs to start new life. She is lovingly called “MAI” meaning elder sister by her friends. She is recipient of National Leadership Award from National Association of Indian Nurses in USA. She is a co-founder of Universe Senior Association, Cerritos, Indo-American Optimist Club – under Don Knabe (LA county supervisor), and INAC (Indian Nurses Association of California). She is currently busy with a new project of setting up Indian American Senior Care Giver Association.
FIA-SC is proud to have her as its president and it expects to get stronger under her leadership and guidance.
